2/6/2010: Savor the Season
January was a big month for us, mostly because of some decisions we have made to cut back, consume less, and put our efforts toward using less and living more. We have also decided to buy a house come fall, where neither of us will need to commute as far. We are home, and we feel the urge to make it permanent.
It has been a cold and wet start to the new year, but we are warm and snug. The earthquake in Haiti moved me like nothing has in a long time - and my heart continues to go out to the people there. It made me volunteer to go help, and has forced me to remember just how much I have and how seldom I truly give thanks for it. Today I give thanks. Today, I celebrate my life. Today, I show appreciation and love to those around me. Today, I honor those I worship with faith and grace and commitment.
We are learning more and more how to drink of the cup that stands in front of us. To enjoy what we have, to appreciate the beauty and wonder of what is around us. The view of Sandia Peak right outside our window. The balloons that rise out of misty winter trees. The diversity of art that makes up the Southwest. Our new friends, and the old ones who have so graciously weathered our move.
What do you do to stay grounded? What things bring joy to your heart? Who around you makes you sing? Have you given thanks lately? It's something to think about ...

As the year begins to wind down and the equinox draws near, this is definately a time to give thanks for all we have. Not only are we fortunate in the material element, but our time in NM has allowed us to refresh and renew, to ground and settle, and it may be this for which I am most grateful.
Someone wrote to remind me that 'NMD' is reserved for those licensed (I presume they mean practicing) in AZ, and since I am in NM, is an inappropriate designation. Interesting, isn't it? Interesting that the very thing that separates us from the other various kinds of naturopaths - our medical training - can only be claimed in AZ. Well, thank you Diana, I have adjusted my website designation, with the caveat that I remain a medically trained Naturopathic Physician.
